The Children, Families & Community Committee will:

  • Monitor attendance of pupils and groups of pupils and evaluate strategies designed to maximise it. Also to set attendance targets;
  • Monitor the behaviour management policy and associated policies e.g. anti-bullying, monitor their implementation and evaluate outcomes e.g. the impact on exclusions in the schools;
  • Consider equality issues and set objective for the current school year;
  • Oversee the schools’ contributions to pupil well-being, including the extent to which pupils feel safe, adopt healthy lifestyles and contribute to the school and wider community
  • Oversee the policies and provision relating to home/school links and community cohesion;
  • Review and evaluate child protection and safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Monitor the views of pupils and how these are taken into account;
  • Keep under review provision and policies for sex and relationships education, religious education and collective worship and make recommendations to the governing body as necessary;
  • Evaluate impact of SMSC;
  • Evaluate impact of DDA;
  • Monitor and evaluate strategies to ensure that pupils are enabled to contribute to the school and the wider community;
  • Monitor and evaluate the engagement of parents with the school, parental views and how these are taken into account and consider ways in which home-school links can be further developed, making appropriate recommendations;
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communications with parents including statutory requirements such as the complaints procedure and home-school agreement
  • Monitor community links and community use of the school, and evaluate the schools’ contributions to promoting community cohesion;
  • Monitor and evaluate scope of extended services:
  • Monitor impact of RRSA.

The Resources Committee will oversee:

The Standards & Curriculum Committee will:

Oversee pupil achievement, ensuring the schools provide a high quality learning experience and deliver a broad and balanced curriculum in keeping with the schools’ aims, all pupil needs and legal requirements.

In particular the committee will:

  • Keep under review the schools’ statutory obligations in relation to the National Curriculum;
  • Recommend to the governing body the schools’ pupil performance targets although the school recognises it is no longer statutory;
  • Monitor school based, local and national performance data and reports (eg LA report and Raiseonline), evaluating achievement and analysing the performance of different groups and subjects;
  • Keep under review the SEN policy, monitoring provision and ensuring that the schools fulfil their responsibilities for pupils with special educational needs and with disabilities;
  • Monitor provision for, progress and attainment of vulnerable groups e.g. those on FSM, looked after children, young carers, and the effectiveness of any intervention strategies;
  • To contribute to and know the contents of each school’s SEF in relation to the achievement of pupils (e.g. quality of teaching and learning);
  • Keep under review the impact of the equality policy (including gender, race, disability) in relation to teaching and learning, curriculum, achievement and progress;
  • Determine, monitor and evaluate the range and the impact of extended activities on pupil learning;
  • Monitor the overall effectiveness of the early years foundation stage, including outcomes, quality of provision and effectiveness of leadership;
  • Agree any changes to school session times;
  • Monitor impact of Sports Premium:
  • Monitor effectiveness and impact of the Saturday School
  • School, Able and Gifted Provision, and Pupil Premium Projects;
  • Monitor teaching of Phonics and outcomes;

Each committee feeds back to the Governing Body, thus Governors are kept fully informed of the work of each committee.

Governor Induction

Before appointments to the Governing Body are confirmed, a Criminal Records Bureau Enhanced Disclosure must be obtained. The following will then be arranged/expected:

  • An induction will be arranged which will include a tour of the school,
  • The new governor will be asked to complete a skills audit to ensure they are
  • deployed to the most appropriate committee (depending on their skills).
  • A mentor will also be appointed.
  • New Governors will be expected to attend the ‘National Training Programme for new Governors’ within their first year in office.
  • Local training will be arranged as necessary (eg Governors who are members of the Resources Committee will need to learn about the schools’ financial systems. The school business managers will provide this.
