Stag Lane Infant & Nursery School is a Rights Respecting School

Stag Lane is a school where everyone recognises and acts upon their own rights and responsibilities with respect to the school, the local community and the wider world.

We were awarded LEVEL 1 Rights Respecting School status in July 2013. We have begun to embed the rights respecting culture to such an extent that the whole school community knows about it and works to support it. The status was granted after a thorough inspection by UNICEF. Whilst parents, staff and Governors were all represented on inspection day, it was our children that stole the show and through their knowledge, passion and leadership demonstrated the impact that belonging to a rights respecting community can have.

What is a Rights Respecting School?

Children and adults work together to realise the rights of the child with respect to the school, the local community and the wider world. We believe that by understanding their own rights children learn to appreciate and uphold the rights of others. Children learn that with rights come responsibilities.

At Stag Lane, children learn about their rights by becoming familiar with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

Children learn the value of a rights based culture by experiencing learning in a community where adults take responsibility for ensuring that all children enjoy their rights.

Children take on leadership roles within the school and play a full and active part in the decision making processes that help to improve the education provided by the school.
